Is it legal for me to trap an Armadillo?

There are a number of things that one has to consider when it comes to dealing with pests, and local regulation is not an exception. Such regulation, however, do differ from state to state. For most states, homemakers are normally allowed to conduct trapping by the use of traps such as the live cage. Armadillos are normally not considered as natives’ species and so many areas would allow trapping. The regulation would also vary depending with the trapping method in use and measures taken after the catch.

Florida and Texas states
In the states of Texas and Florida, trapping is no doubt allowed by the law. The problem actually comes in with what to do with the animal after trapping as relocating is prohibited. This therefore goes that trapping, may not be the method you want to implement if you are a resident in these states.

Regulations in other states
One needs to check what exactly is the provided by the law in your state, that is whether or not trapping is allowed and whether or not relocating is allowed as a way of getting rid of the animal. In most states, generally trapping is allowed. In other areas, however, property owners are not allowed to deal with the animals themselves. Licensed professionals are the only ones that are allowed to handle the job. In such areas, euthanasia is normally considered as the best method to get rid of the animal.

Is relocating legal or nor?
Since you do not want to land on the wrong side of the law, it will be wise if you check with the legal regulation of your state on how to deal with the animal after the catch. For invasive species, for instance, the law would prevent one to relocate the creature from the area it was caught. This prevents the animals to further spread to other areas. If relocating is legalized in your state, then this becomes the better option as opposed to killing. The ultimate solution in dealing with armadillos would be using professionals. This option would actually come in handy if one does not know how exactly trap and getting rid of the animal. If you are unsure of how to handle with the animal and yet still choose to go ahead, then you might just be putting yourself at risk of facing the law. Always choose to inquire from those in charge to ensure that while handling the armadillo, you are safe from breaking the law.
