How to remove bat feces from concrete

Bat feces or guano are unattractive and have no beneficial purpose in a home. Their presence may pose a health risk to a home dweller. It is common to find some bats perched upside down on some trees along pavements or on the ceiling in dark places such as the garage or a barn. These tiny mammals will litter the floor space with their guano and you will have to figure out how to clean the waste. Just observe the following for ease during the cleaning process.



Before cleaning up

First and foremost, it is important to seal off their entry points to prevent future movements into the area you will be cleaning. Remember it is illegal to harm them. Find a suitable live exclusion method based on the nature of the infestation and seal the area. You may now clean up the waste they left behind knowing it is your final attempt.

Things you will need

Cleaning up bat guano can be an expensive undertaking when done by you because of the tools required. It is advisable to have professionals do this. However, if for whatever reason you are inclined to do it yourself, then you will require the following;

  • Protective clothing
  • Hose pipe
  • A broom
  • A dust pan
  • Sealable waste bags
  • Thin bristled scrubbing brush
  • Saw dust
  • Enzyme based cleaner
  • Hydrogen peroxide based cleaner
Cleaning procedure
  • Using the broom collect the guano into heaps and put them into the sealable waste bags using the dust pan.
  • Direct a thin film of water using the hose pipe towards the entire area covered by the guano using the hose pipe. Water will loosen the dried up remnants which you can scrub off the ground using the broom.
  • Apply the enzyme based cleaner to the spots where guano stains are visible and use the scrubbing brush to loosen the stains. Do not rinse this mixture instead use the saw dust to absorb it then sweep it off using the broom and dust pan.
  • For the remaining map-like stains you may use the hydrogen peroxide based cleaner to clear them the use saw dust to remove the mixture.
Precaution and additional tip

It is important to wear protective gear when handling all kinds of excrete. Do not harm the bats while doing the cleaning process.
