Charleston Wildlife Tip: Does Sulphur or lime keep snakes away?
Snakes are cold blooded reptiles that are prone to attack when threatened or surprised. Charleston snakes are territorial animals that will viciously attack trespassers on sight if disturbed. They are mostly found in human enclosed spaces during cold weathers to help them restore body heat to keep warm, places like basements, storage compartments, cellars, etc. basically areas with less human activity. Due to their fierce nature, no one would want them around, so how can they be kept away? Research as proved, snakes are highly irritated by pungent substances like Sulphur and Lime. But how effective is Sulphur and lime? Does Sulphur or Lime keep Charleston snakes away?Sulphur as a snake repellent
As mentioned earlier, "snakes are highly irritated by pungent substances" and Sulphur is renowned for its pungent smell. Sulphur is a chemical element present in all living tissues, this chemical substance is present in the biological composition of snakes.Multiple experiments have been carried out to test the theory of Sulphur as a snake repellent and all have not been successful. Indeed, Sulphur does have a pungent smell that irritates not only snakes but even humans, its effectiveness isn't strong enough to repel snakes. The only effect noted from the use of Sulphur on snakes were the snake's violent reactions, creating a more dire situation of being attacked. Thus, this concludes the use of Sulphur as a snake repellent a fail.Lime as a snake repellent
Known for its stinging sour taste, lime as also been used as a snake repellent but unfortunately it also proved to be a fail. From multiple experiments, using lime only proved efficient when mixed with other substances like Sulphur or granulated pepper. The effect of the solution on snakes resulted to mild irritation and aggression. Therefore, lime cannot be used to keep snakes away.

Conclusion
