Suffolk County Wildlife Tip: What Do Rats Sound Like
Rats are nocturnal mammals. If you hear any scratchy sound mostly at night then it might because of existence of Roof rats in the attic. Suffolk County rats move very swiftly so you can hear screechy sound. Most likely rats follow the same pathway for their movement in and out from the attic so you can easily figure out movement. Rats are bigger in size from the mice. They have greasy brown skin with long tail. You hear the gruffly sound from the attic or wall because rats clear their way to build the nest and hide food. They prefer to build their nest above the ground. And what could be better than isolated attic area. They enter in the house by moving along the wall and find their way straight to the attic. Attic is an ideal place for rats as insulation provide them soft and warm surrounding for their nest.
Activity time of Rats
Usually rats sleep all day long in their nest and become active at dusk. When they move they make heavy thumping sound. Rats leave the attic as soon as its dark outside in search of food and water and return back to the attic. When they get back in their nest they bring the food with them.
