Springfield Wildlife Tip: Rat odor: causes and how to remove smell
Rats tend to be thought of in a similar way to marmite. You have the individuals that love them and will keep them as pets, and the others who will try and avoid them at all costs. Rats are well known for being small rodents that will go through bins in their search for food, chew and claw at materials, and have an annoying habit of getting into very small places. They are Springfield rodents so they can smell unfavourable but when you have an infestation, their behaviour will often make the smell much worse.

Why do Springfield rats smell?
They are wild animals so they have the smell of wild animals, however due to their size they can make home in the smallest and most annoying of places. When in the home, they will drop faeces and breed which often contributes to the nasty smell that you can whiff.

How do I clear the infestation?
Whilst it would be much easier to call in professionals, sometimes money isn't on our side. Many will at least try and see what they can do before calling in anyone else. There are many different traps on the market, something with bait such as food has the best chance of working.

Do I need to be careful?
You do need to be careful. Pregnant or breastfeeding woman should stay well away as Springfield rats and their faeces can carry bacteria very harmful to this target group, although they can be harmful to everyone.

How do I get rid of the smell?
After the infestation is cleared, you will have to remove all faeces that may be left in the home. It may be safer to remove any contaminated areas and replace. After doing this, it's important to spray a strong disinfectant to remove any lingering odour.
