Atlanta Wildlife Tip: How to get rid of skunks without killing them
Oh no! The smell! What is that? Your answer is a dreaded one: Atlanta skunk. Now, these guys have a notorious reputation, and with reason. Their scent glands give off a putrid smell, and they use it quite effectively as a form of defence. There is, of course, a way to get rid of them without harming or killing them.

Prevention is better than a cure
To be fair, if you are reading this, prevention is no longer a viable option. But here are some ideas for future reference:
• Fence off your yard
• Do not leave food out, ergo pet food, overnight. Skunks are mostly nocturnal foragers
Now, to the problem at hand: getting rid of the Atlanta skunk without harming it.

Traps
Using a trap would be seen as the most humane way possible. You will need:
• A cage trap, raccoon sized
• Bait: cat food or marshmallows
• A bit of patience
These traps are best used outside. If you are unfortunate enough to have one inside the house, keep the creature calm. A scare would make it spray you with its noxious scent, so let's have a look at this with a clear head and nose.

Luring the creature outside
• Use bait. If it's in an inner room, lure it out with cat food or marshmallows in the next room. Repeat the process until it's in a room with outside access. Note: do not overdo the bait.
• Teamwork is key: have somebody closing off other rooms while you lure the Atlanta skunk out
• Finally, once it's outside, make use of a raccoon trap with more bait.
Once you have the skunk in a trap, grab some gloves and an apron, both being plastic or rubber, load it onto a pickup truck, and release it out in the wild.
