Tampa Wildlife Tip: Do rats hide from humans?
I wish they did all the time, trust me. I wish they were the best players of hide and seek so that I didn't actually have to see them ever again. If you're anything like me, the answer to this question will be, ‘they don't hide well enough'. Yes. If you think about it, rats are tiny compared to humans and like any other small animal, they will become scared and try to scarper away from any large human they come across. The likelihood is, you will see one out of the corner of your eye and before you can focus and have time to panic, they will be gone.

Where will they hide?
Rats are tiny and can get into the smallest cracks and holes (often becoming a problem for exterminators if an infestation is suspected). They will often hide in dark corners where they suspect they are less likely to get spotted. You will more than likely, come across shy Tampa rats which are much more susceptible to hide from you than to stay and fight you. Rats would much rather return to their nest with other rats than to stay in sight of a human.

Is it just dark corners they will hide in?
No. Tampa rats are smarter then they look, they also have the natural ability to climb and swim, so they can use this to get away by any means necessary. If you are trying to catch a rat that has somehow made its way into your property, you will soon notice that they can outsmart you a lot easier than you may of thought.

Rats are nocturnal animals
Some may be braver than others, while the majority will run away from you, some may simply not be seen because of their lifestyle habits. You are much more likely to find a rat late at night than you are in the day. This tends to be a problem for Tampa rat-catchers as most of us would like to be asleep at night rather than chasing a rat around the kitchen.
