Phoenix Wildlife Tip: Pigeon odor: causes and how to remove smell
Have you ever wondered why pigeons seem to smell so bad? Maybe, you've recently found Phoenix pigeons living in your home, or maybe, you've noticed a crowd on the street and now, can't get that horrible smell out of your nose. Here, I will be explaining why you smell this and the best reported ways to get rid of them.

Why do pigeons smell?
The first idea is, Phoenix pigeons have a natural powder in their feathers which helps them to get rid of parasites on their bodies. Whilst this sounds clever, the odour left isn't very enjoyable. Secondly, pigeons are attracted to sunny areas, away from predators and locations with a good food supply. As many can live together, they will then drop faeces in this area. When pigeon poop is left in direct sunlight… the smell can get all too much.

How do I get rid of the smell?
In order to remove faeces smell, the excrement has to be gotten rid of. It has been advised by professionals, the best way to do this is, soak the droppings and then try to shovel them off your home. It's important to try and NOT clean them directly, as Phoenix pigeon poop can carry diseases, harmful if inhaled.

What if this doesn't work?
Depending on how long the droppings have been left there, this may work, this may not. For those with a power house or jet wash, use it! This can come in extremely handy to shift the stubborn ones.

Okay…the bird droppings have gone, now what?
Once the faces have been removed, you may still smell the odour. This is normal. In order to combat this, wear protective clothing and use a mixture of water and ammonia or bleach to remove the obnoxious smell.
