Oro Valley Wildlife Tip: How to Get Rid of Skunks: Bait the skunk trap with apple, peanut butter, canned sardines, or another strong-smelling food. The smellier, the better. Set it near the skunk's den or its route of access to your property. If you have a one-door-trap, you can place the bait just beyond the trigger plate, towards the closed end of the trap. If you have the two-door one, hang the bait directly above the trigger plate. Once the skunk is trapped, release them in the woods miles away from home. Prepare yourself by wearing gloves and a jacket in case they spray you. Install fences: You can also set up a high fence. Or an electric fence may be another ideal solution. This kind of barrier is not only effective to deter skunks but also other animals like wild dogs, foxes or raccoons.
